COVID-19 has slowed down our fast-paced lives and has proven to be a much-needed excuse for most people to stay home and relax. As time goes on, workers and employers realize how much more convenient working from home is. Chances are many of us will want to continue working from home well after the pandemic has been cured.

Below are several of the major reasons why people seem to prefer working from home as opposed to going into the office. There are some downsides too, but we can discus that after the pandemic ends.

In general, there are 3 different opportunities to work from home. The first option is to work from home as a regular employee of a company, the second is to freelance, and the third option is to own a business online.

Business Employees working from home

Perhaps one of the biggest pros for an employee working from home is all the independence you have which you wouldn’t have otherwise experienced at work. No, we aren’t just talking about working in your PJs! You don’t have your boss hovering over you, pressuring you to produce results. Often, this type of stress can cause us to slip up and make mistakes we wouldn’t have otherwise made. At home, you have the freedom to take things at your own pace.

Moreover, many people have found that working from home is a great productivity booster. Because you are able to save loads of time commuting to and from the office, you: A) do not feel as tired starting your work for today and, B) get to come home and relax— having more time to spare towards your well-being so you start every day fully rested and energized.

A survey conducted by the National Safety Council indicated that 97% of workers suffer from severe fatigue, and 27% have fallen asleep on the job. Now that people don’t have to wake up earlier to change, and commute, they can sleep in for longer.

Freelancing

Freelancers are perhaps the only part of the workforce whose work-life hasn’t changed much on account of the pandemic. Actually, “freelancing” and “working from home” have became synonyms. Basically, these are people who are self-employed and hired to work for different businesses or individuals on particular projects or tasks.

Working as a freelancer from the comfort of your home means that you get to be your own boss. You get to work at your own pace without an authority figure looming over you keeping an eye on your productivity. Moreover, you get to decide your wages. If your client is unwilling to pay the price you quoted, you can simply try negotiating harder or move on to another client.

Being your own boss can be daunting in that some people may think it’s easier to lose motivation. This is far from the truth! You’ll stay motivated to outdo yourself since the harder you work the more money you make.

Owning an Online Business

As a regular business owner, perhaps one of the biggest costs you will incur is that of renting out a premise or office space where you conduct your day-to-day business activities.

Starting an online business (that you run out of the comfort on your home office) means that you won’t have to spend loads of money on premises. Even if you don’t decide to work entirely from home and want to keep an office around for some departments, you’ll need a smaller space.

Some other benefits when operating an online businesses include:

• Opportunities to manage your business from anywhere in the world,
• Reach customers globally,
• Cost savings (no premises, no inventory, no regular employees),
• Streamlined services thanks to more flexibility,
• Possibility to scale your business fast and easily,
• Earn passive income,
• Generate profits higher than a regular salary …and many more

While being a freelancer and working for a company from home have more similarities, owning a business online is quite different. Working for a company gives you more security, freelancing gives you more flexibility, but in both cases you work for someone else’s company and earn limited salaries. On the other hand starting a business online is much more challenging but gives you endless opportunities. Anyways, nothing stops you to start your online business while working from home for others (psst, don’t tell that to anybody).

We are aware that starting a business online poses many challenges and definitely is not for everybody, but our Online Business Startup Guide simplifies the process. Take this chance and try yourself as an online entrepreneur. Our Guide will help you start and run your online business step by step.

Coronavirus or not, Work from Home.
